Getting involved with the Edgar County Humane Association (ECHA) can be as simple as you would like it to be! Not everyone can adopt or foster an animal. Whether it's because of unwilling roommates, lack of funds to own a pet, or simply because a family has too many animals already, some people might not be able to help in taking an animal home. Getting animals to their forever families is ECHA's main mission but there are many other opportunities in which you can assist.
Volunteer!
One of the easiest and most rewarding ways to help is to volunteer your time to the shelter. Volunteer jobs range from caring for the animals (walking them, playing with them, or bathing them) to caring for the facility (cleaning cages, the shelter, or helping with daily activities).

Donate!
Another wonderful way to provide assistance to the Edgar County Humane Association is to donate supplies. The abundance of animals that come through the doors of ECHA make restocking supplies a necessity. If you are unsure what items ECHA might need just ask yourself what your own pet needs and loves. You can also call the Edgar County Humane Association at (217) 466-9415 for specific items that are needed. Donatable items include food and water bowls, pet beds, towels, pet food, pet beds, collars, leashes, and grooming tools.
Animals like this sleepy pup love having their own toys to play with. Stuffed animals, tennis balls, rope toys, squeaky toys, and food puzzle toys are just a few examples of the many types of toys that animals would enjoy.

Animal shelters like the Edgar County Humane Association also need other household cleaning items to help with the upkeep of the facility. A list of specific items ECHA uses can be obtained by calling the association at (217) 466-9415. Items such as disinfectant, paper towels, toilet paper, newspapers, towels, and even office supplies can be useful in ECHA's daily activities.
